![]() A small box of pistol ammunition costs more than the GDP of Ukraine, and good luck hunting when you are shooting away more money than you will make from selling some animal hides. Oh yeah, not to mention the fact that there is no sustainable economy. If you are touting "realism" as one of your selling points, you can't make it so that a guy in a leather jacket can survive a point blank shotgun blast to the chest and not even flinch. If you want to make it so that you die in one hit, fine, but you can't then turn around and make NPCs near invulnerable. That's not advanced AI, it's artificial difficulty. If you, as the player, take 2 hits from a Flesh, you will outright die. I saw a generic NPC stalker getting the shit mauled out of himself by a pack of Fleshes, and he just stood there taking hit after hit like a robot and killed them all. If you look in the configs, NPC actors are actually set to take reduced damage (50% less, actually) from all sources of damage, while the player has insanely high damage multipliers. Stealth isn't viable at all, and is actually horribly broken.Īs far as their aim to create advanced AI so that there wouldn't be bullet spunges, they've obviously failed. It polished up STALKER to what it should've fully been (the original devs had financial issues, etc). Personally STALKER is one of my favourite game series and I've played a lot of mods for it and the Misery mod is by far the best full concept one for STALKER. It has also made stealth more viable, they overhauled the way NPCs and stuff detect others and you from the original. ![]() The only real way to make NPCs in FPS games more difficult without bullet sponges is advanced AI, and that was one of MISERY's goals. In misery they are sponges, but one shot to the head/spine and they go down, so that's easy enough. The only real bullet sponge NPCs you come across are the super zombies or whatever, in the base game people would farm them easily for good gear. That paired with bullet sponges as you can imagine is not good design, but MISERY has tried to steer away from that as much as possible. Misery to my experiences is about putting an emphasis on the survival mechanics, making them more difficult, making ammo scarce and useful, more realistic guns, etc. The "Complete" mods make enemies into bullet sponges though. Mutants that generally have quite a bit of health are mutants like the pseudogiant. Obviously though mercenaries and stuff sometimes wear exoskeleton armour which is endgame gear nonetheless, so they don't die in 1 hit but take a couple of bullets, but head shots always insure rapid kills. I too don't enjoy bullet sponges in FPS games, but MISERY has more advanced AI, mobs are just generally more difficult to deal with.
